MANILA - Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr, who is battling tongue cancer, has extended his leave, his office said Wednesday.
Espenilla's leave announced earlier this month was to end last Monday. Deputy Governor Chuchi Fonacier was designated officer in charge, according to the BSP's corporate affairs unit.
In February 2018, Espenilla said he had a bout with tongue cancer and was expecting a full recovery.
Last September, he went on another medical leave, which was extended while he underwent further treatment.
