MANILA, Philippines - Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla confirmed that the Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO) will be cut off from the power grid tomorrow, January 24.

Petilla says ABRECO owes around P350 million from PSALM.

It needs to raise P12 million this week to pay Abotiz Power and National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), another P10 million for the last week of January to pay NGCP, and another P15 million the week after that for Abotiz Power. Aboitiz Power is ABRECO'S supplier.

According to Petilla, the Department of Energy has already talked to Aboitiz, local government officials and ABRECO but the cooperative is not likely to raise the needed funds.
