MANILA, Philippines - The search for the next central bank governor is still on.
President Aquino is "casting a wide net" as it looks for candidates to the post, Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte told a press briefing on Jan. 20.
Current Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) governor Amando Tetangco Jr. is set to end his 6-year term by July 2011.
News about President Aquino's offer to Tetangco for a second term circulated this week.
Tetangco and President Aquino have both been mum about it.
Valte said President Aquino is not limiting his search "within the BSP."
Rumors about who will occupy what position in the Aquino government intensifies as the ban on his partymates who ran and lost during the May 2010 elections expires.
During the one-year ban, the losing candidates cannot assume positions in government. - with reports from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
