MANILA - Online jobs in content creation dominated the online freelancing space last year signifying the "viral importance" of a company's online presence, a report said Wednesday.
Writing was the fastest-growing job category, up 537.5 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year, Freelancer.com said in a statement, based on openings posted on its platform.
Application programming interface (API) was the second fastest, followed by blockchain, academic writing, 2D animation, social media management, blog writing, Express JS, Shopify templates, and drawing related jobs, according to Freelancer.com's "Fast 50 Report."
The popularity of content-related skills such as writing, design and animation rose "dramatically" following a surge in content-heavy jobs during the first 3 months and the last 3 months of the year, it said.
"Jobs being done online to create content on the Internet are quickly becoming some of the most popular, fastest-growing jobs being done by freelancers on the Freelancer.com marketplace, demonstrating the dominance of content in today’s online world," the company said.
Blockchain maintains growth, rising by 300.8 percent, while Machine Learning was identified as a "dominant" skills area, which grew by 71.7 percent in 2018.
E-commerce is also an area of "rapidly increasing growth" evident by the surge in jobs related to platforms such Shopify which include creation of Shopify templates, managing inventory, HTML or CSS code, Freelancer.com said.
Meanwhile, software development, app development, shopping carts and order processing jobs declined last year signalling a "waning" interest in building an e-commerce site from scratch as users opt for full-service e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, the report said.
The Fast 50 Report analyses trends in the marketplace with over 31 million users, Freelancer.com said.
