MANILA – Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno on Wednesday said removing the P75 billion allegedly inserted in the 2019 national budget could affect job generation and the government’s Build, Build, Build program.
The Senate on Tuesday deleted P75 billion from the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) following a motion raised by Senator Panfilo Lacson.
“That has an impact on employment, poverty. Because if you don’t get jobs, of course you will be one of those who are poor,” Diokno said during his weekly briefing.
"Of course it will also delay a little bit, not too much, our commitment to makeup for past neglect in infrastructure," he said.
Malacañang Palace on Tuesday allayed fears over the deletion saying that the Executive branch can augment using available supplemental budget.
The government is currently running on a reenacted budget after lawmakers failed to approve a P3.7 trillion 2019 national budget due to allegations of insertions by the Department of Budget and Management.
