MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Transportation and Communications has voiced its support for the rehabilitation plans for EDSA proposed by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The DPWH plans to conduct road reblocking in various parts of EDSA from Balintawak to Baclaran and this P3-billion project may take up to a year to complete.
But the DOTC admitted the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) will not be able to accommodate additional passengers given the surge expected when the DPWH project begins.
Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya said while his department is planning to buy additional MRT coaches, this may not happen within the year.
The DPWH is looking to begin the reblocking after elections once it is given the go-signal by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). -- ANC
