MANILA — Meralco denied Tuesday that it would cut power in parts of Metro Manila and nearby areas that were spared by Taal Volcano's eruption over the weekend.

A chain text message claims that a power outage will hit Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Pasay City and the whole Calabarzon region while Meralco supposedly cleans power transformers that Taal's cloud ash coated on Sunday.

"Meralco never cuts off power," Meralco Spokespeson Joe Zaldarriaga told ABS-CBN News.

Ash from the volcano, he said, spawned an "emergency line trouble" that cut power in the following areas, as of 10 p.m. Monday.

Portions of Sta. Rosa, Cabuyao, Calamba, San Pedro, Binan

Portions of Talisay

Portions of Silang, Amadeo, Alfonso, Mendez-Nunez, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Dasmarinas, Indang, Maragondon, Naic, Trece Martirez

Meralco is "continuously monitoring the situation" and "will not shut off power in any unaffected area", it added in a Facebook post.

Taal, which sits in the center of a picturesque lake south of the capital, is under the second highest danger level, which means a "hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days," said state seismology institute Phivolcs.
