MANILA—President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday warned traders against hoarding N95 masks following the eruption of the Taal Volcano.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Executive said he sought to impose a price cap on the masks to prevent traders from exploiting the situation.

“I am not surprised kasi itong mga negosyante if the demand is high then magkaroon tayo ng kulang then the prices go up, or the worst thing that they can do if they have enough supply yet they are selling it at prohibitive prices already,” Duterte said.

“So I’m setting the limit, I’d like to talk to the Public Health Secretary tomorrow, there are things that I’d like to bring to the attention of the Filipino people,” he added.

“Ang mura naman n'yan, bakit? Do not hoard it, kapag tinago ninyo then I will be forced to order, pasukin ka.”

The President said he would task the military and police to distribute N95 masks for free.

“Yes, for those who cannot afford it, we will give it free,” he said.—Report from Pia Gutierrez, ABS-CBN News
