MANILA—The approval of the Telecommuting Act "sends a strong signal" that the country can adapt to the global environment to remain competitive, a labor official said Friday.
Malacañang Palace on Thursday announced that President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law a bill that allows private sector employees to work from home.
"It’s a show of progressive thinking that indeed we can be at par with global business practices now. We can be agile and mobile using technology," DOLE assistant secretary Joji Aragon told ANC.
Aragon said the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) must be created after "robust" consultations with stakeholders.
However, the country's unstable power supply and slow Internet connection could "hamper" the implementation of the arrangement, Employers Confederation of the Philippines chairman Edgardo Lacson said in a separate interview.
