PLDT taps Google for free WiFi in Smart WiFi hubs

MANILA - PLDT Inc said Monday it partnered with Google to bring free WiFi connectivity at the hubs of its mobile unit, Smart Communications.

The tie-up with the US internet giant will help expedite the Philippines, shift to digital services, Jovy Hernandez, head of PLDT and Smart enterprise business groups.

Technology is a "great equalizer of opportunities," said ePLDT president and CEO Eric Alberto.

"All our efforts are driven primarily by our mission to provide universal access to information," said Google Next Billion Users Chief Business Officer David Shapiro.
