MANILA - The government plans to set up a shared manufacturing facility for vehicle parts to help the private sector shift to its modernization program for public transport, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said Wednesday.

Manufacturers can cut costs with the shared facility as the government will provide the equipment, Lopez told DZMM.

"Gagawa po tayo ng common shared facility magkakaroon ng isang lugar doon natin i-eencourage ang commercial vehicle manufacturer na maglocate para magshare sila ng facility for auto parts," DTI Lopez told said.

(We will set up a common, shared facility, a place where we encourage vehicle manufacturers to locate, so that they can share the facility for auto parts.)

Lopez said this would help motivate local manufacturers to compete with competition from China that are relatively cheaper.

"Para makabigay tayo ng trabaho dito, sana i-source locally, kasi iyung mga local ang matutulungan," Lopez said.

(We hope parts can be sourced locally. This will also help create jobs.)
