It looks quite snug, no-nonsense clinical, and will match any wardrobe—especially if it’s the kind that usually involves gingham shirts, basic khaki trousers and oxford polos.

The much-awaited face mask from global casual clothing brand Uniqlo will be available nationwide starting Friday, September 18. Called the Airism Mask, it employs a filter that promises to deliver a bacterial filtration efficiency of 99%—which means it has the ability to block droplets and protect the skin from bacteria, virus-contaminated particles, and pollen.

The triple-layer mesh structure keeps the mask light and thin, optimizing breathability.

The filter is the AIRism mesh fabric. The mask is a three-layer shield which claims to have a UPF 50+ rating, protecting users from 90 percent of ultraviolet rays. Each pack contains 3 masks and retails for Php 590.00. It comes in small (recommended size for kids), medium (for small adult faces), and large (for regular adult dimensions) and is available in black and white.

The mask is machine-washable and is said to retain its efficacy after 20 times of washing at 40 degrees using regular household detergent. The inner AIRism layer has none of the stiffness or thickness typical of non-woven and cotton masks. The triple-layer mesh structure keeps the mask light and thin, optimizing breathability.

The global brand, however, does not guarantee that the AIRism Mask safeguards completely against infection—it is not a substitute for medical-grade masks.
