Perhaps since the beginning of civilization, music has played an important role in human culture. Some of the earliest musical instruments date back to the Paleolithic era, in the form of bone flutes dating back tens of thousands of years.
However, it’s only been in the last couple of decades that music has been so integral a part of the home, and for all this time, Bang & Olufsen has been a leader in innovative solutions for bringing amazing sound, high-quality craft, and impeccable design. Now, with the launch of their new boutique showroom at the luxurious East Wing in Shangri-La Plaza Mall, B&O is taking the next step in showcasing and delivering its quality products to homes in the Philippines.
Stepping into the 140-sqm space, you’d be forgiven for not initially realizing that you’re at an audio store. The classy, warm lighting and interior design language all seem to lend themselves more to a high-end furniture showroom than a place that sells speakers. Even the products themselves seem to resemble artistic conversation pieces than high-end, precision-engineered Danish technology.
And this is perhaps where B&O sets itself apart from the rest. “Coming from a long line of innovators since 1925, B&O is known for its unique way of combining sound, design and craft – the three pillars that define the brand and gave rise to a collection which is highly sought after,” said Ferdie Ong, General Manager of Living Innovations, official distributor of Bang & Olufsen in Manila.
One of the highlights of the showroom launch showcased the Beosound Edge, among the latest products that demonstrates B&O’s drive for innovation. The Beosound Edge is a collaboration between B&O and renowned London-based designer Michael Anastassiades, whose unique lighting designs have captivated critics around the world.
The Beosound Edge’s design is inspired by the one-pound British coin, and is as much a furniture piece as it is a powerful, beautiful speaker. A minimalistic, elegant design belies the acoustic prowess within, featuring a 10” woofer driver, and twin 4” midrange and ¼” tweeters on either side of the coin, totaling a massive 800 watts of power.
The Beosound Edge also features Directional Sound Control, allowing users to choose which side of the speaker radiates sound and thus divide a room into different listening areas, or opt for a room-filling 360-degree sound. It also has a patented Active Bass Port system that opens or closes a reflex port, switching between heavy bass at high volumes, and accurate bass at low volumes.
Even the means of controlling the speaker have been touched by B&O’s hand of innovation. Proximity sensors light up the speaker’s interface as you approach it, and volume control is as simple and natural as rolling the speaker to either side. The Beosound Edge also features support for AirPlay 2, Google Cast, DLNA, Bluetooth, and BeoLink Multiroom technology.
The showroom also had the Beosound 1 GVA and Beosound 2 GVA speakers on display. Designed by Torsten Valeur from David Lewis Designers, these smart speakers feature support for Google Voice Assistant, using an array of microphones to listen in on a room, allowing them to control music and smart home appliances, ask questions, and perform other Google commands with just their voice.
The Beosound 1 features a portable design that integrates a rechargeable battery, allowing it to be taken wherever you want, while the Beosound 2 is built as a more long-term fixture. Both of these feature top-mounted volume control wheels, and touch-sensitive top layers that use proximity sensors to allow you to simply swipe left or right to change tracks.
Also featured at the showroom was the B&O Bronze Collection, which took its most popular speakers— the BeoPlay A9, the BeoPlay M5, Beosound 1 and 2, and the brand-new Beosound Edge—and gave them a gorgeous bronze finish that would fit any modern home design.
Each of these speakers supports B&O’s BeoLink solution, connecting them to your home network and allowing you to fill every room with music.
The Bang & Olufsen showroom at Shangri-La Plaza Mall is just one of many B&O stores that are set to be launched across the country. B&O are committed to making their presence known in the Philippines, with stores already present at Power Plant Mall, Solaire Resorts & Casino, Greenbelt 5, The Podium, SM MOA and SM Seaside Cebu.
