May 9, Sunday, is Mother’s Day. Because this year’s trip has been postponed to an undetermined date yet again, tell your mom you’ll just take her tastebuds on a transportive experience. We’ve given you the cakes, now here’s a list of savory treats representing different cuisines from around the world.
1 Singaporean Hainan Chicken Rice at Sambar
Treat your mom to an old school Hainan Chicken rice meal via chefs Nicco Santos’ and Queenee Villar’s brilliant take on this always comforting Singaporean classic. This comes in solo, sharing or family style sizes. All sets come with chicken rice, steamed HK gai lan and freshly sliced Japanese cucumbers that pair well with their home-style ginger sauce, ketjap manis and chili sambal.
Available for lunch service this Sunday (Mother’s Day) with 11:30am and 12:30pm pick-up and delivery slots. DM them ASAP on IG @sambarph or text 09178999363 to order.
2 Thai Fried Chicken or ‘Gai Tod’ Cake at Samyan Thai Street Food
Back for a limited time is this savory showstopper made of layers of Thai fried chicken, jasmine rice, and green papaya salad. Available for preorders (cut-off 12pm of the previous day) at 09177077459 and via www.thegridfoodmarket, and same-day order for take-out at Stall 16 of the Grid Foodmarket at Rockwell’s Powerplant Mall (give 1 – 2 hours lead time). They make only 8 cakes per day.
3 Spanish Iberico Pork Ribs Premium Paella at Txanton
For Mother’s Day, Txanton’s Chef Justo Rodrigo will be serving a paella highlighting the use of premium Iberian Pork Ribs with Ila de Riu Bomba rice, El Navarrico Leeks and baby beans that’s good for five. Craving for more Spanish food? You can also order a whole Spanish Cochinillo D.O. Segovia (Approx 5 kilos)—suckling pig roasted for 45 minutes per side in the traditional way over a layer of water, white wine, garlic and rosemary. Call Txanton at 88776928 or WhatsApp 0917 1795498, 0915 1362824 to order.
4 Tuscan Schiacciata with Njuda Butter at Naked Bakery by the Breadman
Send your mom a slice of Tuscany via Naked Bakery ‘s addicting ‘Hellboi’ or Schiacciata with Njuda butter. Schiacciata is a Tuscan version of the more popular focaccia bread. In the case of the Hellboi, the Schiacciata is topped with a compound butter spread made of Italian Njuda, a type of Italian soft spreadable fermented pork salume. The result is an addicting open faced, crusty bread pizza alternative. You will not be able to eat just one. Order via www.bit.ly/sardough or visit @nkd.bakery on IG for more info.
5 Chinese-Style Steamed Lapu Lapu at @jencooksph
Jenny Tan of @jencooksph deliciously steams freshly caught red Lapu Lapu the traditional way—sans MSG. You can now enjoy this Chinese feast favorite and lauriat staple from the comforts of your own home, whenever you crave for it. DM @jencooksph or Viber 09178955658 to preorder.
6 Cuisses de Grenouilles (French-style fried frogs legs) at Gastronomade Manila
Thanks to Chef & Maitre Saucier Aaron Isip’s line of special bottled sauces and ready-to-cook kits—they show you some of the best ways to use these sauces—whipping up a French-style gourmet meal at home has never been this easy. Our personal favorite among Chef Aaron’s sauces is the yuzu meunière, which goes really well with his ready-to-cook French-style fried frog legs starter/appetizer kit (which only takes around 15 minutes to cook). We also like Gastronomade’s ready-to-cook Steak Frites and Sole Meunière kits. They are accepting orders for Mother’s Day till Saturday, May 8, and delivering the kits until May 8 only this week. Regular Monday to Friday delivery schedule resumes next week.
7 Australian Wagyu Steaks at Artisan Cellar Door
Food, be it decadent sweets or a hearty steak, is a foolproof gift option for Mother’s Day. If your mom is into wagyu steaks, send her some Australian Wagyu steaks from The Phoenix Wagyu, the 2020 Grand Champion at the Perth Royal Food Awards, Branded Beef category. It’s good quality meat that needs only salt, pepper and a few minutes of searing in high heat. Contact 0917-8339828, 0966-7669303 or (02)88800619 to order.
8 Sijang tongdak at Chikin Town
Previously known as KTC (Korean Traditional Chicken) in Poblacion, Chikin Town now delivers traditional sijang tongdak, an extra flavorful South Korean street-style double fried chicken using Korean ingredients. It’s almost like the Korean version of Max’s Fried Chicken but with a kick. Perfect for your K-drama loving moms, a whole chicken only cost 599 each and can be ordered mild or spicy. A side of pickled radish cubes is included for free. Currently only accepting orders from Friday to Sunday. DM @chikintownph on IG or viber (917) 510 3445 to order
