It took a long time coming but the biggest homegrown fast food chain in the country, Jollibee, is finally in the chicken sandwich business. It announced Tuesday the arrival of the brand-new Jollibee Chick’nwich which drops in select Jollibee stores this month.

At first glance, the Chick’nwich looks more robust than the classic chicken sandwich of rival McDo, and closer in appearance to the KFC Zinger. The fast food titan confidently asserts the Jollibee Chick’nwich will bring “chicken sandwiches to a new level.” Its claims: it is twice the size of the average chicken sandwich and is made with “100% whole juicy chicken fillet, double hand-breaded to give you double the crunch.” The chicken is sandwiched in a “buttery brioche bun, and packed with a special mayo dressing and dill pickles.”

Online influencers have been weighing in on the sandwich. @MasarapBa on Instagram gave it a "Masarap naman," adding "di tayo lugi at gusto ko yung may slight kiliti siya ng anghang na very satisfying." Even writer and political analyst Manuel Quezon III had something to say. "Tasty and nice bun," tweeted Manolo, "but I think Zinger would do better in the still-tasty-even-if-cold department."

We tried it ourselves to see what the fuss is about. It is indeed closer to the KFC Zinger, but without the spiciness of the latter. The patty is definitely crunchy outside and made up of hefty chunks of moist chicken inside. They go a little lighter on the mustardy mayo spread, as compared to the special mayo that goes to their burgers. All in all, its a pretty straightforward crispy chicken sandwich that is both flavorful and filling.

“Both our Jollibee fans and chicken sandwich fans are in for a great treat as we take chicken sandwiches to an exciting new level with the Chick’nwich,” said Mari Aldecoa, Assistant Vice President, Marketing. “We can’t wait for everyone to satisfy their cravings and try Jollibee’s take on this kind of food that people just love.”

The Jollibee Chick’nwich will be available at all Mega Manila stores Tuesday, November 23 for PHP 130.00 solo, and PHP 175.00 with fries and drink. It will also be available via drive-thru, takeout and the Jollibee Delivery App, JollibeeDelivery.com, or #87000. Also available in Drive-Thru and Take Out!
