Before Monday, Election Day, take a breather from all your election anxieties and spend the day with mom. But make sure you’ve placed your orders for Mother’s Day treats, in case you’re not planning on joining the multitude of sons and daughters taking their Nanay out to lunch or dinner on Sunday (for many this is happening for the first time in two years!).
If you need ideas, we’ve rounded up a curated list of old favorites and new goodies that are just a Viber or IG message away. These include edible bouquets, Manila’s best mamon, and really good sourdough bread that’s as warm and comforting as—you know it—a mother’s hug.
1. Nutella Bread Box at Wildflour
Start Mother’s Day on a sweet note with this limited edition Wildflour Nutella Bread box that includes a selection of Wildflour goodies that are baked with Nutella—Nutella Cremadette, hazelnut bomboloni, Nutella kouign amman—or pairs well with it, like a croissant, a pan de baton, and pandesilitos. The box also includes 6 Nutella Cappetta, 1 bread spreader, 1 fridge magnet, and a couple Celebration cookies. Perfect for sharing. Message @Wildflourtogo on IG or call 0917 852 0950 to order.

To celebrate all the mother figures in our lives, Kumori came out with this summer-perfect, classic Japanese style mango cake made of a layer of soft vanilla sponge, coconut cream mousse, cashew meringue, cream cheese, and generous spreads of mango. Crowned with Chantilly cream and finished off with edible gold leaf flakes, it’s as regal as she looked on her wedding day and an elegant addition to your Mother’s Day feast. 5. Cassava Cake from Everything Nice Café
You no longer need to drive up to Baguio to get hold of a box of this extra creamy and cheesy cassava cake considered by many as the best cassava cake in town. Everything Nice Café, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with the announcement that it finally opened a Manila commissary in Taguig. Text/Viber 0917 506 2615 till May 7 to order a box.
6. Golden Raisin Sourdough by Bernadette Olivares
The quality and quantity of sourdough available in the market has vastly improved. Leading the pack of its purveyors is Bernadette Olivares who bakes some of the best sourdough breads in town at her house in Taguig. She also makes really good pull-apart kouign amman that she’s unfortunately not making during the extra hot summer months. Text 0908 865 9366 or DM her @bernadetteolivares on IG to pre-order. Her classic sourdough is very good but I highly recommend trying the other variants available, like my current favorite Golden Raisin.
7. Earl Grey Chocolate Orange Cake from Flour Pot Manila
Flour Pot Manila just launched another bou-cake in time for Mother’s Day featuring a rather complex creation sure to please tea lovers: a butter pound cake infused with Steuarts Earl Grey tea. It comes dressed to the nines with a dainty blush-colored buttercream, fresh flowers and herbs, fresh strawberries and dried fruits. 9. Mango Sampaguita Cheese Pie from Casa Luisa
This is no ordinary pie. It’s a decadent treat that’s refreshingly light at the same time. As if that’s not enough, it’s finished with more cheese — queso de bola and fresh kesong puti on top for a gastronomic happy ending. Pre-order via their website by May 4 at www.casaluisa.ph
10. Surprise Chocolate Cupcakes by Homemade by Roshan
It’s the good old Cookie Monster chocolate cake of my childhood years but in cupcake form. Classic chocolate cake base with a surprise coffee flavored custard filling that’s finished with a to-die for chocolate icing. A dash of candy sprinkles on top adds a playful touch of whimsy to the otherwise monochromatic chocolate-on-chocolate treat. Please contact +632-86317786
