It couldn't have chosen a better time to reopen. The Makati Central Estate Association (MACEA) recently welcomed people again to an improved and refreshed Jaime Velasquez Park. With the easing of Covid restrictions, Salcedo Village residents and office workers can once again enjoy the large grassy lawn, wide open spaces, visual artworks by the artist Impy Pilapil, children’s playground, pet park, and trellised walkway of the Jaime Velasquez Park.

Located in the midst of the Makati Central Business District, the park is a quick getaway from the city’s hustle and bustle. It stands as a primary convergence point, bringing people together for fitness, children’s playtime, weekend strolls with pets, and other social activities such as the yearly Art in the Park. It also has a community center, a barangay office, and a satellite clinic with public restrooms.

The park was named after the late Colonel Jamie C. Velasquez, once chief executor of the Makati Master Plan—the first open development plan in the Philippines which has since paved the way to what is now known as the Makati Central Business District. “It is fitting, therefore, that MACEA now acknowledges the depth of gratitude we all owe to Colonel Velasquez for his dedication to the principles that MACEA holds dear and we have aimed to embody in the Jaime Velasquez Park: inclusivity and accessibility, safety and the creation of spaces that are both flexible, environmentally responsible, and enduring,” said Jonathan David, MACEA General Manager.

The 7,600-sqm park's reopening comes at a time when city dwellers are looking for more spaces to enjoy fresh air and sunlight. Starting November 26, park visitors will also be able to enjoy musical experiences as live buskers fill the air with serenades Friday to Saturday from 4pm to 7pm. With Christmas around the corner, the park will also host Anticipated Simbang Gabi on December 15 to 23 from 7pm to 8pm.
