It was a night of pure chill as ANCX hosted its second event for the year: the rum and ribs night at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza. The evening capped the lifestyle site's Masters and Mentors series which featured stories about masters in their fields passing on their knowledge and passions.
Among the personalities featured in the said video series were chef JP Anglo and epicure/restaurateur Joel Binamira; Potato Corner’s Chairman Emeritus Joe Magsaysay and Chief Operating Officer Dominic Hernandez; designer Kenneth Cobonpue and entrepreneur Jay Aldeguer; ABS-CBN News correspondent Jeff Canoy and ABS-CBN News Channel Chief Operating Officer Nadia Trinidad; father-son coaching tandem Chot and Josh Reyes; and (an upcoming episode that features) Frontrow President RS Francisco and Chief Operating Officer Sam Versoza.
More on Masters & Mentors:
- Journos Jeff Canoy and Nadia Trinidad talk about the importance of mentors in the newsroom
- Potato Corner COO on mentor JoMag: ‘The best thing he has given me is his complete trust’
- Chef JP on mentor Joel: “He doesn’t give you the answers; he gives you a roadmap”
- Chot Reyes on son Josh: ‘We may have opened the doors for him but he made his own name’
“This is a search for the good men in the country who set the example, showed us the way, shared their passions, their principles,” explained ANCX executive editor Ces Drilon at the packed Davao Room, welcoming the guests. “We paired the masters and the mentors. But the titles aren’t exclusive—you can be a master and a mentor at the same time.”

Over generous servings of rum and ribs—plus an array of other sweets and savories—the event, attended by industry friends, was made more exciting with a fun trivia game. Rum proved to be the new go-to liquor of choice as Tanduay Asian Rum Cocktails (Cucumber Mojito and Manila Mule) and dessert-infused Rum Baba (a yeast cake saturated in syrup made with rum and filled with whipped cream) were served during the night.
The event was hosted by ABS-CBN News Channel anchor Lexi Schulze.
