There’s no doubt about it: the McDonald’s BTS Meal is a certified hit in the Philippines. We heard it straight from Mcdo’s Managing Director Margot Torres herself when she dropped by ANC’s “Market Edge”: the fast-food restaurant sold almost 3.5 million pieces of chicken nuggets after they launched the meal inspired by the phenomenal boyband BTS.
The popularity, of course, has extended to social media where fans are outdoing each other making something out of the meal’s packaging: framing them as a keepsake, making it their phone case design, turning them into a Dior saddle bag, and making them into a toy robot. And then there are the memes!
What if nga naman Jollibee thought of making their own celeb meals using their own endorsers. Thus was born the idea of a Songbird meal—inspired by Regine Velasquez, includes Crispy Wings of Love (from “On the Wings of Love,” get it?) and available for delivery “Araw Gabi,” just like that beloved Regine ditty.
And then there’s the one inspired by Sarah G: the Popstar Meal which includes a Coke Sarah (not Zero, gets?) and her own version of the Twister Fries—the Ikot-ikot Fries.
Indeed, leave it to Filipino netizens to turn this craze into a meme extravaganza. Here are some of the most creative and witty we encountered online. How do we describe them in one word? Dynamite!
