Harry Styles is on top of the world.
The 29-year-old British pop superstar — riding high after winning the 2023 Grammy album of the year and best pop vocal album for Harry’s House — is in the midst of the Asian leg of his 169-date Love on Tour, with a show tonight, March 14, at the 55,000-capacity Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
Official merchandise to the concert, produced by Live Nation Philippines, was made available as early as 8 am.
Premium Standing and Premium Seated ticket holders were allowed exclusive entry inside the venue as early as 12 noon.
The Live Nation Philippines Facebook page has issued guidelines in the unlikely event of lost tickets (carelessness due to too much excitement?).
The tour, twice postponed due to the pandemic, was mounted to promote Styles’ 2019 album, Fine Line — the remarkable predecessor to Harry’s House and which first signaled the artist’s musical transformation.
Many of the tracks in both albums are slow, or at least not solely for dancing — with thoughtful lyrics and moments of introspection.
It is said Styles had been listening to a lot of ’60s and ’70s music and it shows in his current work. In the track “Canyon Moon” from Fine Line, Styles plays the Appalachian dulcimer (which looks like an ethnic acoustic guitar) after hearing it on Joni Mitchell’s 1971 album Blue.
A Rolling Stone feature story said: “Styles tracked down the woman who built the dulcimer used in Mitchell’s album and requested lessons; she would go on to build Styles his own dulcimer which was used during the album's recording.”
The set list tonight contains a lot of material from Fine Line, some from Styles’ 2017 self-titled debut solo album, and one from his One Direction days.
He’s performing with a 10-piece band, including Mitch Rowland, one of three (along with Thomas Hull and Tyler Johnson) collaborators on Fine Line and Harry’s House.
Aside from the music, keep a close look on Style’s flamboyant androgynous fashion outfits.
