In a surprising turn of events, what was expected to become a more somber 94th Academy Awards—to somehow acknowledge the ongoing crisis in Ukraine—turned out quite the opposite. Thanks to the onstage slapping incident that involved Will Smith (the slapper) and Chris Rock (the recipient of the slap), people have likely forgotten who won what in this year’s awards derby.
Meanwhile, on the red carpet department, curiously enough, most of the men looked very proper, well put together, couldn’t hurt a fly. There were only a few disruptors who broke the series of black tie numbers—we’re looking at you, Daniel Kaluuya (in a green Gucci jacket), Simu Liu (in a red Versace suit) Wesley Snipes (in a Bordeaux-colored Givenchy), Kodi Sweet McPhee (in pastel Bottega Veneta), and Timothee Chalamet.
Chalamet, star of “Dune,” and from recent history one of the more interesting guys to watch on awards show fashion parades, went shirtless, opting to wear only a sparkly jacket—worn unbuttoned—he himself picked from designer Nicolas Ghesquiere’s Spring/Summer 2022 womenswear collection for Louis Vuitton. Paired with the right attitude, the unconventional outfit proved a winner, which makes him one of our choices for this year’s Best Dressed Men at the Oscars. Below, his dapper companions.
