Investing in art and antiques is no joke. You usually need a pretty deep pocket to play this game, and a lot of verified information. When bidding in an auction, it’s good if the provenance of an artwork is unquestioned, but its still best if you know what to watch out for—the telling details that make an Amorsolo a real Amorsolo, a Manansala an authentic Manansala.
This Monday, May 31st at 5 PM, ANCX and Leon Gallery are presenting, through the ANCX Forum, “Repro Or Real: How to Tell if An Artwork or Antique is Worth A Fortune.” It promises to be an informative and enlightening exchange on what makes certain coveted objets d’art the real deal and not a reproduction. A panel of experts will be joining host Ces Drilon to dissect and discuss some of the highlights in the upcoming Leon Gallery Spectacular Midyear Auction.
Among the guests are Sylvia Amorsolo Lazo, daughter of the Father of Filipino Landscape Painting Fernando Amorsolo. She will be joined by Fernando Amorsolo Lazo, grandson and namesake of the National Artist. There is also Maritess Pineda, an arts and culture patron and the Founding Member of Friends of Manansala; Leo Garcia, a Philosophy professor and a collector of Lao Lianben paintings since 1991; and Floy Quintos, independent curator and an authority in Filipino collectible santos.
Also part of the panel is Toto Gonzalez, a trusted resource when it comes to antique Filipino furniture and and a resource person of the Casa Manila museum in Intramuros.
