Celebrity athlete Gretchen Ho participated for the first time in a Criterium race event via the first leg of PRURide PH 2019 April 7 at Filinvest City, Alabang and in the process, she was able to achieve personal feats.

Ho said she first got inspired to bike after covering a Filipina athlete who excelled in a competition in London.

"Nakita ko si Coryn Rivera, nag-champion siya sa Prudential Ride London. She rides under the US Team Sunweb. Sabi ko, 'five-foot-one, Pinay, she can win this?' She was so inspiring so after that, I got into cycling," Ho said.

On April 7, Ho competed in the road bike female open category of PRURide PH 2019, her first-ever competitive race.

Ho said cycling has changed her life in more ways than one.

"It changed my life because I've brought my working out to a different level," she said.

How is she preparing for her next ride?

She switches up her training routine every now and then.

"It’s good kasi 'yung running, good for cardio and nagwe-weights din ako for my arms. So itong cycling, leg workout, core workout so iniiba-iba ko yung training ko kaya hindi ako nabo-bore," Ho said.

She always adds something different to her preparation.

At the kick-off of the cycling event, the TV host expressed happiness and pride over how she has learned to ride in cleats. "Sobrang proud ko sa sarili ko kasi takot na takot ako diyan kasi sumemplang na ako sa first bike out ko, so ang goal ko talaga hindi ako sumemplang while learning cleats. Hindi pa naman ako sumesemplang and nagulat ako na 'yung fear, mas matindi kaysa d'un sa actual thing," she said.

She gets a thrill out of every bike ride.

"I feel like it's a sport you can be intense at but still enjoy it kasi when you're on a bike, it feels like you're traveling, bringing yourself to different places, and at the same time, puwede mo siyang i-scale up, maging intense ka, or puwede mo lang siyang i-enjoy depende sa pacing mo."

She has been going around Quezon City to make sure she’s getting better each day.

"In preparation for my first ride at the Prudential Ride London Surrey 46 mi (74 km) in early August and for the PRURide PH Gran Fondo in May, I plan to do 100K. Little by little, I'm getting better, adding more mileage and proud ako na nagawa ko na itong cleats na ito," Ho said.
