Men and women from different age groups converged at McKinley West in Taguig City on Sunday as British life insurer Pru Life UK reprised its cycling event, PRUride PH 2018.

PRUride PH 2018, according to Pru Life UK's Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Allan Tumbaga, is part of the insurance company's efforts to reach out to communities and promote a healthier lifestyle through exercise. The event was first held in 2016.

"It [cycling] also helps preserve fossil fuel, which will help the environment. If people go into it, it could even decongest [traffic in] the metropolis," Tumbaga emphasized.

Following the strenuous cycling activities at Subic, Zambales last January 11 to 14, the McKinley West leg of PRUride PH 2018 was fun and exciting, as participants competed for the cash prizes and all-expense-paid trips to London that were at stake.

Professional and amateur cyclists from all over the country signed up for the PRUride Criterium, which was divided into 14 categories. While waiting for their respective races, participants checked out some of the latest in biking technology at the bike expo held a stone's throw away from the track.

Apart from criterium races, PRUride PH 2018 also held the exhilarating Brompton Philippine Championships, which featured the Slowest Lap Challenge and the Brompton Criterium.

Participants of the Slowest Lap Challenge had to bike through a 100-meter track in the slowest possible way they could, without stepping on the ground. Those who signed up for the Brompton Criterium, on the other hand, were dared to finish a 15-minute race while wearing formal tops, such as barongs and suits.
