The Christmas season lights up the world. The holidays bring hope that though the world is facing many trials, people are not alone in facing them. However, some people are finding it hard to find joy in the season. With so many difficulties financially and the ever-present fears for health, some families cannot easily feel the joy and hope as everyone else.

The Noel Christmas Concert, now in its fourth year since starting in 2018, aims to return the lost spirit of Christmas into the hearts of the people. The event was born out of the collaboration of The Arete, Ateneo University's premier creativity and innovation hub, and Noel Ferrer, a respected and multi-awarded talent manager in the country.

This year's event was divided into three parts: the Level Up Song Writing Contest, Level Up People of the Year Awards, andThe Radyo Katipunan Pamaskong Handog Project Year 2, which shared gift items to different Filipino families to help them celebrate with a small feast this Christmas.

The students, faculty, administrators, staff, auxiliary personnel, and alumni from the Jesuit schools in the Philippines joined the songwriting contest. The theme of the songs revolved around the ability to heal during times of difficulty and how people achieve freedom and hope. Performances and awards were also held to celebrate the strength of Filipinos.

The Level Up People of the Year Awards recognized inspirational individuals and those who brought honor to the country, namely: Hidilyn Diaz, first Olympic gold medalist, Maria Ressa, 2021 Nobel Peace Prize awardee, and Vice President Maria Leonor 'Leni' Robredo.

The outreach program, held for the second time this year, gave a total of 900 Christmas packs to nine communities:

  • Servants of Charity – Guanella Center, Home for Children with Special Needs
  • Missionary Brothers of Charity (MC) House for Abandoned Adults
  • OLAP/ St. Francis Choir Project Payback Outreach for Elderly Street Dwellers
  • UP Jeepney Drivers
  • Epheta Village which houses visually impaired massage therapists
  • Intramuros Pedicab Drivers and Kutseros
  • Pagrai Cogeo Community, Antipolo City
  • St. Joseph Chapel Community, Batasan, Quezon City
  • Cottolengo Foundation for Orphans

This year, Olympic weightlifting gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, together with her brand sponsors in the live event and her team, have volunteered to help in the Pagrai Cogeo Community in Antipolo and the St. Joseph Chapel Community in Batasan, Quezon City outreach event. Noel Ferrer also participated in other locations of the outreach activity.

"As a whole, as Filipinos, dapat tayong magtulungan lalong-lalo na ngayong Pasko," Diaz shared during the event in Batasan, Quezon City.
(As a whole, as Filipinos, we need to help one another especially during Christmas time).

She hopes that those who were at the event felt the spirit of Christmas through the gifts that they shared because Christmas is a time when everyone should be celebrating. She adds that she hopes to continuously bring a smile and inspiration to fellow Filipinos wherever she goes.

Diaz is the first Filipino to ever win an Olympic gold medal for the country. Through her win, she has been spreading inspiration and passion in her sport. Now, she also aims to share simple gifts to others to show fellow Filipinos that together it is possible to win against any trial.

"Para sa akin ang ibig sabihin ng Pasko ay pagmamahal by giving," Diaz said.

(For me, the meaning of Christmas is to love by giving).

She is filled with gratitude that by partnering with Radyo Katipunan they were able to share the love to nine communities and 900 families in nine days.

Radyo Katipunan and its mother organization, Jesuit Communications Foundation, Inc., are also grateful for the opportunity and another year of bringing hope to hundreds of families nationwide.

The Fourth Noel with the theme ‘Brighter and Stronger Together’ and the three event segments was livestreamed on the Facebook and YouTube channels of Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM, Jesuit Communications, The Arete Ateneo  and Ateneo De Manila University last December 25, Christmas Day.
