If there's one thing Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan is good at--besides acting for film and TV-- it is being a mom.
For more than two decades, the veteran actress has been able to juggle her showbiz career and family life. She is married to TV host Anthony Pangilinan, and continues to pursue acting and even writing children's books while raising their five adorable children--Ella, Donny, Hannah, Benj and Solana.
In a past interview on "Magandang Buhay," Laxa emphasized that having a perfect marriage is a myth. But that does not mean that couples should allow the quality of their relationship to deteriorate.
"Ang secret ay hindi kami palaging masaya. Ang secret ay hindi kami palagi happy, at kapag hindi ka nag-iisip na kailangan laging happy para magsama, doon pa lang ang laki na ng pagbabago. You don't have to be happy all the time to stay together," she said.
As a celebrity, Laxa admitted she has a tight schedule, but this has not stopped her from being a hands-on mom, especially when it comes to buying the right things for her family.
Just like most moms, Maricel personally does the grocery shopping for her whole family. From ensuring quality to saving money, she has some useful and "sulit" tips that other busy mothers can try:
1. Make a grocery list
Ensure that you know what to buy, the quantity, and which brands you trust. This will save you more time when you do the actual shopping.
2. Don't shop for food on an empty stomach
When you're hungry, everything looks yummy. So be there with a full stomach, so you can avoid buying the things you don't need.
3. Prepare your budget
Have enough money when you buy groceries. Put it in a separate wallet, and never be tempted to use it for other things like snacks.
4. Buy items which are affordable and of good quality
Ultimately, make sure that you check the quality and affordability of every item you're about to buy. Some things are affordable, but do not have good quality and vice versa. You will save more money in the long run if things work properly.
