The heated dance competition in the Philippine is just starting.
The top 16 dance competitors showed their unique moves to unpredictable tunes during the Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines and one dancer stood out among the rest – Mickey Yatar from Baguio City.
Last July 23 at the Bonifacio High Street Amphitheater, Yatar ruled the dance floor as he topped the competition after beating Taz in the final round. He will be going to the World Finals in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 10 to represent the Philippines.
After the competition, in an interview, Yatar shares that he is still dazed after winning the competition.
"Like to be honest 'yung feeling na nanalo ako, hindi pa nagsi-sink in kasi ang bilis nung mga pangyayari, but right now 'yung initial feeling ko talaga was gratefulness. Sobrang thankful ako sa Red Bull and sa top 16 na kasama kase they are all strong and they really pushed me to give it my all," shares Yatar.
(Like to be honest, the feeling that I won has not yet sunk in because everything was just too fast, but right now the initial feeling that I have is gratefulness. I am extremely grateful for Red Bull and to the top 16 competitors because everyone was strong and it was because of it that I was pushed to give it my all.)
Red Bull, a popular energy drink, gives wings to people and ideas - as it helps vitalize the body and mind with every sip.
The Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines is Red Bull's way to help support Filipino dancers who give their all to the art. Red Bull Dance Your Style is a unique one-on-one street dance battle competition where the crowd is the judge.
The battle challenges the dancers and entertainers from around the globe to take their improvisation to a whole new level. Tunes ranging from mainstream hits to timeless classics allow dancers to demonstrate their skills and excite the crowd.
Yatar appreciates Red Bull's initiative to include the Philippines in the line of competitors around the world. He hopes to gain support from his fellow local competitors and fans of street dance as he prepares to battle for the crown at the World Finals of Red Bull Dance Your Style.
"Ngayon, top of my head is consulting the top 16 kase they all have great ideas kung ano pa 'yung puwede ko pang i-improve because some of them are my teachers and closest friends. So 'yun ang una kong gagawin, I want to consult and gather more tips from them for my preparation. And then more physical training para I will be ready. Especially 'yung weather sa South Africa, we do not know kung paano magre-respond yung body ko doon. So those are the top two na nasa isip ko ngayon," shares Yatar.
(Now, my top of mind is consulting the top 16 since they all have great ideas on what else I can improve because some of them are my teachers and closest friends. So that is what I will be doing first, I want to consult and gather more tips from them for my preparation. And then more physical training so I will be ready. Especially because of the weather in South Africa, we do not know how my body will respond. So those are the top two things that are on my mind right now.)
During the World Finals dancers will compete against over 60 dancers from 30 countries and only one will take home the pride of being the winner at the World Finals.
Yatar hopes that fellow Filipinos, especially street dance fans and other dancers, will continue to support him as he trains for the title.
