People have been caring more about the environment – realizing the effects of pollution and how it affects lives, and everyone is making an effort to keep the surroundings clean and safe for people to live in.

With the help of technology, mobility company Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is moving to create a sustainable future for everyone. Now, one of its customers shares why she has chosen to drive a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).

Caring for the environment with CO2 emissions

Vilma Fuentez has been driving a Toyota Corolla Cross HEV since February of 2022. According to Fuentez, there are several reasons why she decided to shift to driving an HEV and one of them is because she noticed that the vehicle emits less smoke than combustion engine cars.

"It helps because it does not contribute as much carbon emissions anymore to the environment, dahil gumagamit siya ng electric motor.," shares Fuentez.

TMP is one of the pioneers of the electrified vehicles (xEV) shift in the country, having launched the Prius, one of the first-ever electrified vehicles in the country, in 2009. The introduction of HEVs, which produce less carbon emissions, is one of the ways the mobility company is working to achieve carbon neutrality.

With Toyota's multi-path approach to a carbon neutral future, it understands that there is more than one way to achieve this. Providing an accessible and practical option for modern day Filipinos to switch to an electrified vehicle is one of its missions today.

Today, Toyota has one of the widest xEV lineups. HEVs, in particular, are a practical solution in a country like the Philippines where xEV infrastructure, laws, and road aid are yet to be fully developed.

For people who want to start their electrified journey, HEVs are already available and are more accessible than before.

Cost-effectiveness and safety

Fuentez shares that since she has bought her vehicle, she has been spending more on toll fees than on actual costs of her fuel which is a win for her.

"Since I bought the Corolla Cross last February, hindi pa ako umaabot ng P10,000 sa gasoline. I am travelling most of the time pero in a month parang isang beses lang ako nagpapagasolina and it will only cost me less than P2,000 sa isang buwan. Hindi ko hinahayaang maging empty talaga. Nasa half tank palang siya or below half nagpapa-gas na ako. So, in a month, hindi ako umaabot ng 2,000. Very cost-efficient talaga," shares Fuentez.

I am traveling most of the time, but in a month, I only have to fill up once and it will only cost me less than P2,000 in a month. I really do not let my gasoline tank be empty. Even if it still has half tank of fuel or below half tank, I still make it a point to refuel. So, in a month I do not spend 2,000. It is very cost-efficient).

She even shares that she has driven as far as Pasay to Pangasinan and did not have to spend P3,000 for fuel. Fuentez reveals that she takes her car every day to work and intentionally takes long drives on weekends to test its battery capacity and fuel efficiency.

Aside from its cost-effectiveness, the vehicle is also designed to help keep drivers safe.

"It is very reliable. Kapag nagda-drive ako minsan na-a-out of lane ako, so mag-b-beep na yung car to warn me. Talagang ikakabig ka niya na you have to stay in your lane. If you want to go to the right or to the left you have to turn on your signal lights," shares Fuentez.

For Fuentez, the top reasons why she shifted to driving a hybrid electric vehicle is its quiet drive, reduced CO2 emissions, self-charging battery, classy design, and spacious interior with leatherette covering as it does not need accessorizing. Her Corolla Cross HEV has enabled electrifying limitless possibilities for her.

"It was the quality, the convenience, and the comfort – that was my turning point. I have no regrets getting a hybrid vehicle," shares Fuentez.

Toyota's HEVs offer easy and cost-efficient access to the hybrid technology. Each HEV takes pride in its customer-centered qualities and functions, including fuel efficiency, reduced CO2 emissions, easy maintenance, powerful drive and acceleration, and self-charging battery – while promising a calm and quiet ride.

With the Corolla Altis GR-S HEV, Camry HEV, Corolla Cross GR-S HEV and RAV4 HEV, Toyota offers HEVs in various colors, sizes, and payment solutions available for every lifestyle, life stage, and budget.
