Some on-screen couples have an appeal that goes beyond the fictional world. They give audiences something to look forward to when the world begins to seem so much like a savage, loveless place—which it can be most of the time.
While the rest of the world has Jack and Rose from the tragic tale 'Titanic,' or Katniss and Peeta from the action-packed 'Hunger Games' series, nothing can beat local love teams when it comes to fan devotion and long-lasting appeal.
Among these golden pairs is the affectionately named 'CarGel' tandem, whose appeal has been so timeless it is easily reignited in the hearts of the adoring public.
The pairing of Carlo Aquino and Angelica Panganiban has been well-received despite the end of their real-life relationship years before—so much that it helped their latest film 'Exes Baggage' rake in more than P21 million in its first day at the box office.
It has even touched the hardest of hearts—bringing film critics to describe their chemistry as "sizzling" and "incredible."
The sparkle their team-up brings to anyone's eye made it easy for voters at the ABS-CBN Ball 2018 to hand them the honor of 'OPPO Couple of the Night,' beating out newer pairings, who have their own sets of admirers.
Panganiban was very happy at the special award, which was a fitting end to a very good week for her and Aquino.
“Ganito pala maging couple of the night. Nakaka-young,” the actress said in her Instagram post, which featured a photo of herself with Aquino, and OPPO brand ambassadors Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto.
“Masaya na. Dinagdagan niyo pa,” she wrote, thanking the mobile phone brand which sponsored the special award.
Also thanking OPPO for their prize—a brand-new OPPO F9 in Starry Purple—Aquino said on Instagram, “Hanep, mas lulupet ang selfies ko nito.”
Here are some moments with Aquino and Panganiban at this year's ABS-CBN Ball:
