MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals ended their AFF Suzuki Cup campaign with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Singapore Lions in the second leg of their semi-final clash.
Khairul Amri broke the deadlock by scoring the game’s lone goal for the hosts in the 19th minute, allowing the Lions to win by 1-0 on aggreggate.
The Singaporeans, buoyed by the home crowd, frustrated the Azkals by roughing up the Filipinos.
The Azkals, who could have advanced to the Finals with a scoring draw, were more urgent in attacking the Lions’ goal in the second half but all their attempts were denied.
It was the second straight semi-final appearance for the Philippines in the biennial competition.
Singapore will now wait for the winner between Thailand and Malaysia, who will clash in the second leg of their semi-final in Bangkok today. -- Mornings @ ANC, December 13, 2012
