MANILA, Philippines – Czech Republic beat holders Spain 3-2 to win the Davis Cup.

Radek Stepanek, who became the first man aged 30 or above to win a decisive fifth rubber in 100 years, overcame Nicolas Almagro in front of a raucous home crowd in the finals.

The result meant Czech Republic had claimed the Davis Cup for the first time as an independent nation, 32 years after Czechoslovakia won the trophy with a team led by Ivan Lendl.

The victory also made Czech Republic the first country to win the Davis Cup, the Fed Cup and the Hopman Cup inthe same year. -- Mornings @ ANC, November 19, 2012
