Kareem Abdul-Jabbar statue unveiled in L.A.

MANILA, Philippines – A statue of Los Angeles Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, has been unveiled outside of the Staples Center.

The bronze statue is 1,500-pounds and nearly 16-feet.

Abdul-Jabbar was acquired by the Lakers in a 1975 trade with the Milwaukee Bucks. He helped the Lakers win five championships, and his 38,387 points are the most in league history.

Abdul-Jabbar also set records in rebounds and blocked shots.

Since retiring as a player in 1989, Abdul-Jabbar has served as an assistant coach for various teams, including the Seattle Supersonics.
