MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals will be playing with more confidence when they go up against Southeast Asian powerhouses in the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup.
The Azkals, now ranked 143rd in the world, are now being considered as equals when compared to more established teams in Southeast Asia.
Striker Phil Younghusband said their current FIFA rank reflected how far they have improved from recent years, but noted that they still have to bring their “A” game to the Suzuki Cup.
The team has undergone intense preparations, including a week-long training camp in the Middle East.
The Azkals open their campaign against Thailand on November 24. -- Dateline Philippines, ANC, November 8, 2012
