UAAP: Eagles crush Warriors; Tigers edge Archers

MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eagles crushed the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors, 68-51, in the main game of the UAAP Season 75 men’s basketball tournament Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Eagles ripped through the Warrior’s defense en route to their fifth win in six games.

Kiefer Ravena led the Eagles with an all-around performance of 12 points, three rebounds, five assists and a steal.

The victory also gave Norman Black his 100th win as the Blue Eagles’ head coach.

Ateneo now enjoys the solo lead in the UAAP standings ahead of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws.

UE, meanwhile, remain at the bottom of the standings with four straight losses.

Earlier, the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers edged the De La Salle Green Archers, 84-82, in double overtime.

UST’s Aljon Mariano came through in the clutch, scoring 11 of the Tigers’ last 13 points in the extra period, including the game-winning baseline jumper.

Mariano finished with 15 points and five rebounds to help the Tigers improve to 3-1. -- Dateline Philippines, ANC, August 5, 2012
