MANILA, Philippines – Filipino Olympic swimmer Jessie Khing Lacuna could not keep up with the world’s best as he failed to qualify to the semi-finals of the men’s 200-meter freestyle event.

The 18-year-old Lacuna wound up in fifth place in his heat with a time of 1:52.91.

He was more than three seconds off the heat winner, Matias Koski of Finland. Lacuna finished in 36th place in a field of 40 swimmers.

Meanwhile, the country is pinning its hopes on its archers who are getting ready for competition today.

Mark Javier ranked 55th in the men’s individual round on Friday, pitting him against 10th ranked American, Ellison Brady, in the next round.

Meanwhile, female archer Raachelle Anne Cabral ranked 48th in the seeding. She will face Russia’s Inna Stepanova who placed 17th. -- Mornings @ ANC, July 30, 2012.
