MANILA, Philippines –England footballer John Terry denied he hurled racist obscenities against Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand.
The 31-year-old Chelsea defender is currently on trial after he allegedly used racially offensive language during a Premier League match on October 23 last year, in response to taunts about his alleged affair with a teammate’s ex-girlfriend.
In court, lawyers and witnesses detailed what Terry said to Ferdinand in the match, and a lip-reader, who watched a video of the incident, told the court what Terry said, including two extremely obscene words.
The case comes as English football officials fight to stamp racism out of the sport. -- Mornings @ ANC, July 10, 2012.
