Pacquiao thanks WBO for decision
Filipino boxer Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao on Thursday thanked the World Boxing Organization (WBO) after a panel convened by the sanctioning body said he defeated American Timothy Bradley via unanimous decision.
A five-man panel commissioned by the WBO unanimously scored in favor of Pacquiao after reviewing his highly controversial split decision loss to Bradley in their fight which took place last June 9 in Las Vegas.
“Salamat sa naging desisyon ng panel, at ‘yun naman ang nasa puso ng mga boxing fans, lalo na ang mga kababayan natin,” Pacquiao said in radio DZMM.
On fight night, Bradley was declared the winner via split decision, 113-115, 115-113, and 115-113.
But five international judges convened by the WBO saw differently, scoring the bout unanimously in Pacquiao’s favor, 117-111, 117-111, 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113.
The WBO cannot reverse the decision, however. They also cannot return the welterweight belt to Pacquiao.
The Filipino boxer said that even if he does not get his belt back, the WBO’s decision was good for the sport.
“Para ‘yung tiwala ng mga boxing fans ay nandiyan palagi, 100% palagi ang suporta nila sa boxing,” Pacquiao said. Failon Ngayon, DZMM, June 21, 2012.
