MANILA, Philippines – Russia’s Maria Sharapova completed the ideal build up to the upcoming French Open by beating China’s Li Na to win the WTA Tour’s Italian Open in Rome.
It was a topsy-turvy match which saw Li win the first set and have a match point befroe the match depended on a tie-break.
That tie-break was then delayed for two hours by heavy rain, and Sharapova then came back on court to win the title.
Both players now rest before the French Open, which Li won last year.
Li is still without a title since winning her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros almost a year ago. Mornings @ ANC, May 21, 2012.
