U.S. President Donald Trump has yet to create a definite action plan on how his administration will relate with Asia, an analyst said Tuesday.

Richard Heydarian, author of the book "Asia's New Battlefield: The USA, China and the Struggle for the Western Pacific," noted that both the U.S. State Department and Department of Defense still haven't named their assistant secretaries who will be in charge of Washington's East Asia defense and foreign policy.

In an interview with ANC's Early Edition, Heydarian said although the Trump policy is still "under construction," there are some trends that are evident.

Among those, he said, is strategic reassurance, wherein top leaders are sent to significant U.S. allies and effectively walking back from Trump's campaign-era threats of cutting ties with them.

However, Heydarian said there is not as much importance given to "second-tier" allies, such as Southeast Asian nations thus far.
