Lawyer confident of impeach rap vs Sereno
MANILA - A lawyer is confident that an impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno will see progress at the House of Representatives.
Speaking to DZMM Monday, Atty. Larry Gadon said lawmakers have already expressed support for the impeachment against the Chief Justice when he first attempted to file the complaint.
Right now, Gadon said he is in the process of gathering documents he needs from the Supreme Court for his case, as advised by House Majority Floor Leader Rudy Fariñas so he would not get in trouble in the verification portion.
"Nung mabasa ito (impeachment complaint) ng majority floor leader, nag-advise siya sa akin na mag-attach ako ng original at certified true copies of documents para hindi ako mahirapan sa verification portion," he said.
The lawyer also lauded the high court for its quick response to his request, which includes receipts and Sereno's statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth from 2010 to 2017.
"Nakakatuwa naman na out of the 12 justices who participated in the en banc, 12 sila ang bumoto, 12-0, na i-release sa akin 'yung documents," said Gadon.
"Out of the 22 documents I requested, 20 doon ang pina-release sa 'kin ng Supreme Court... 'Yung nai-release muna sa 'kin ay 9 documents, to follow 'yung iba," he added.
Gadon wants to impeach Sereno for the purchase by the Supreme Court of a Toyota Land Cruiser, a luxury sport-utility vehicle, worth P5.1 million.
He said government funds were used not only in the purchase of the vehicle but also in its bullet-proofing, which he said was worth around P3.1 million.
Gadon also accuses Sereno of not paying the correct taxes, based on documents he obtained from the Bureau of Internal Revenue. But he admitted that this was before he was appointed as chief justice.
