Re-arresting consultants of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines could make pursuing peace harder, an analyst said Monday.

Prof. Edna Co, executive director for the University of the Philippines Center for Integrative and Development Studies says initial progress has been made with the communist rebels and it would be a waste to discontinue the talks.

"I think once the arrest of the consultants of the NDF take place, I think it will become more difficult for peace to be forged and that is why its very crucial to have very intelligent and very wise people in the Cabinet who can also speak to the President," she said.

Solicitor General Jose Calida said last week that he would request the cancellation of bail bonds and seek the arrest of NDFP consultants earlier released for the peace talks following the scrapping of backchannel talks with communist rebels.
