MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Red Cross chairman Richard Gordon said the situation remains morbid in Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley towns affected by Typhoon "Pablo", the Philippine Red Cross said Monday.

PRC Chairman Richard Gordon said a humanitarian crisis is affecting the towns as residents struggle for survival after the typhoon.

"They lost their forest cover in those areas. The forests are completely wiped out...All of them hardly have any shelter," he told ANC.

Gordon said there is great difficulty in reaching the towns of Baganga, Boston and Cateel in Davao Oriental; and New Bataan in Compostela Vallet after the typhoon destroyed bridges and damaged roads.

He said food, water, shelter and livelihood remain top concerns of residents.
