The Philippine government confirms that Malaysia has frozen the assets of Manuel Amalilio, who is wanted here in Manila for duping investors of some 12-billion pesos.
Amalilio fled to Sabah last November.
He was arrested in January, but his deportation was blocked by Malaysian authorities at the last minute.
A Malaysian court recently sentenced Amalilio to two years in jail for holding an allegedly fake Filipino passport.
While Malaysia says Amalilio is a Malaysian citizen, the Justice Department insists he is a Filipino.
The DOJ says, pending Amalilio's deportation, Malaysian authorities have given assurances Amalilio will be kept in jail. -- ANC World Tonight, Feb. 9, 2013
