MANILA, Philippines - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Wednesday gave a bit of advice to suspended Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia who has refused to leave the provincial capitol despite a suspension order from Malacanang.
"The rule of law requires that any public official must defer to whatever is the decision or order of the legitimate authority. Now, it's the Office of the President which handed down that decision of suspension which emanated from the Department of the Interior and Local Government," she told ANC's Headstart.
The justice chief said it was the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo who had recommended Garcia's suspension for abuse of authority.
She urged Garcia to step down after she failed to get a stay order from the Court of Appeals.
