MANILA, Philippines – The health department is again pushing for a total firecracker ban during this year’s holiday celebrations.

Dr. Eric Tayag, director of the Department of Health’s National Epidemiology Center, said they will continue to campaign for the use of the “safest firecracker in the world.”

He said the DOH will re-issue last year’s “Goodbye Paputok”, a CD that plays sound effects of fireworks like the 5-star, watusi, super lolo and whistle bomb.

Tayag also responded to rumors of a high-powered firecracker, which could be named Gangnam after the hit Korean pop song.

“Gangnam Pasko pa din, nakarinig kami gagawa sila ng paputok na Gangnam. Uunahan na namin sila ng Gangnam Pasko dance. Umaapela yun sa bata,” he said.

Tayag also performed to the beat of Psy’s “Gangnam style” with the hosts of Umagang Kay Ganda to urge Filipinos to stop using firecrackers to welcome 2013.
