MANILA, Philippines – Engineers and workers are rushing the repair of the Angat Dam in Nozagaray town, Bulacan.
The dam’s main valve has been damaged, forcing authorities to cut water supplies for 4 days to some parts of Manila that are serviced by Maynilad Water Services, Inc.
The dam’s technical group will work overtime until Wednesday morning, Angat general manager Rodolfo German said.
Maynilad and Manila Water officials met with dam managers to monitor the repairs.
German expects Maynilad’s water supply to return to normal after the repairs are completed.
"Iyung kanilang tubo pag inalis, matagal magpuno, mga dalawang araw pa. Pero kung maibabalik agad, ‘di na dapat mawawalan ng tubig. Walang gap dapat, walang mangyayaring shutdown sa supply ng tubig,” he added.
He, however, clarified that the water company may decide to continue the supply interruption for maintenance work on Maynilad’s pipes.
The dam’s water level currently stands at 175 meters, still below the normal level of 180 meters, German said.
Rains from another typhoon may fill Angat, he added. – Ron Gagalac, ABS-CBN News
