MANILA - A localized thunderstorm is battering Makati and is now moving into the southern portions of Metro Manila, a weather forecaster said Thursday.

PAGASA weather forecaster Obet Badrina said that as of 5:30 p.m., a thunderstorm is affecting Metro Manila including parts of Pasay, Taguig, Las Pinas, Paranaque and Muntinlupa as well as Rizal and Bacoor, Cavite.

He told radio DZMM that moderate to heavy rains will affect these areas for the next two hours.

"These [thunderstorms] are localized convections produced throughout the day," he said, noting that clouds are already thinning in Quezon City while concentrating in Makati.

He said the rainclouds are also moving because of winds.

Badrina said Tuesday's heavy downpour, which caused massive flooding, is classified as "intense and torrential" - dropping 40mm of rain between 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.

A PAGASA thunderstorm advisory noted: "All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy to torrential rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flash floods. Keep monitoring for updates."
