Heavy rains pound NCR, parts of Luzon

Heavy rains pounded Metro Manila and most of Luzon Snday night, causing flooding, traffic jams and cancellation of classes.

In Marikina, hundreds of families spent the night at the H. Bautista Elementary School amid the rising waters of the Tumana river.

In Barangay Malanday, more than 200 families also fled to safer grounds as the level of the Marikina river continued to rise.

Dozens of families evacuated their homes in San Mateo, Rizal with the town’s river threatening to overflow.

Meanwhile, La Mesa dam in Quezon City is still on red alert. While the water level is expected to go down in the coming hours, residents near the Tullahan river are being prepared for evacuation. – ANC News Now, August 6 2012
