A man was stabbed dead in Caloocan past midnight Monday.

The victim was identified as Jonelle Banyas, 44.

Initial police report said Banyas and his friend Ronnie San Jose were walking along a dark street in Barangay 161 when three bonnet-wearing men blocked their way and began stabbing them repeatedly.

San Jose is in critical condition at the Quezon City General Hospital. He sustained five stab wounds.

Police are now looking into jealousy as the possible motive behind the killing.

Farmie Sena, San Jose’s live-in partner, said she recently broke up with a man who was living near the crime scene.

Police have launched an operation to capture the suspect, whose identity was not revealed. – Umagang Kay Ganda, May 21 2012
