The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) declared the fire in Divisoria Mall under control at around 3:25 p.m. on Friday.

Inspector Geronimo Juico, substation commander of Tanduay Fire Station, said the BFP is currently conducting overhauling operations, making sure that embers inside the mall will be totally extinguished before they can declare it "fire out."

Juico said the BFP had a difficult time extinguishing the fire since it started because of the enclosed structure of the mall, and the difficulty finding its source.

Since most of the building is affected by the fire, Juico believes the building should be demolished completely, since the fire has weakened the foundations and steel structure of the mall. -- Headlines, ANC, May 18, 2013
